About the EALC
The Eastern Africa Agency, Social and Gender Norms Learning Collaborative (EALC) is a network of implementing organizations, researchers, community representatives, and stakeholders. This includes NGOs, national alliances, networks, consortia, and media with expertise in social and gender norms. The EALC focuses on increasing individual and community agency to improve health. It exists to empower local research institutions and organizations. Additionally, it strengthens networks and enhances institutional expertise in social and behavior change (SBC) programming.
We envision a world where partnerships, knowledge-sharing, and thought leadership converge to ensure sustained equity, social justice, and health for all people.
Our mission is to strengthen research and practice on social norms, gender, and agency by building a network of practitioners, researchers, evaluators, and advocates who share knowledge, generate evidence, and develop resources to support SBC programming.
Our Objectives
Facilitate Cross-Learning and Networking
Foster collaboration among LC members to drive locally-led evidence generation and research utilization
Contribute to Policy Development
Support the generation of research that informs local, regional, and global policy development
Create learning platforms
Establish opportunities for cross-learning and knowledge sharing through regional and global events
Build Capacity
Strengthen the ability of LC members and local researchers to produce and apply evidence while implementing systematic approaches to measure social and gender norms and agency
EALC Leadership
The EALC is brought together by a three-organization secretariat housed. General LC management is led by Impact and Innovations Development Centre, academic and research leadership is housed within the Makerere University Institute of Gender and Development Studies and expertise and connection with implementing organizations is led by CARE Uganda. Collectively, this group makes up the EALC Secretariat and is responsible for moving forward the EALC and its activities, expanding membership, and setting goals for the future of the learning collaborative.
